Community Health Nurse at the Bendigo Multidisciplinary Centre (MDC)
The Community Health Nurse at the Multidisciplinary Centre provides a caring and compassionate service for MDC clients and their non-offending family members.
Working with people of all ages and genders, the service is inclusive of culture, religion and sexual orientation.
Our experienced female nurse is here to support your physical, emotional and wellbeing needs.
The Community Health Nurse will guide you to identify your health needs and to access specific services, which may include:
- Doctors
- Dental services
- Mental health services
- Sexual health services
- Immunisation services
- Allied health services
- Health information
- Assisted referral for health issues
- Education for all health issues
- Assistance understanding your medications.
“The nurse has helped me a lot with linking into different services and with help regarding my physical and mental health. Most importantly though, I have felt cared about and that what I'm going through matters.”
Partners
This service is based in the Bendigo MDC in Bridge Street. We work closely with other services at the centre, including:
- Centre Against Sexual Assault Central Victoria
- Victims Assistance Program
- Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine
- Child Protection
- Victorian Police’ Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.
If our Community Health Nurse needs to refer you to other health and wellbeing services, we also have strong ties to many regional point-of-care organisations.
What to expect
Once referred to the Community Health Nurse you will receive a welcome text and phone call to organise an appointment for an initial assessment.
You may discuss any concerns you have, and there is no pressure or need to provide details of past trauma.
The nurse will complete a holistic assessment and develop a care plan to assist you with your health needs.
While we aim to meet you in person we understand this is not always possible. Telehealth options are available for those who cannot meet face-to-face.
You will receive a respectful and confidential service with a caring nurse who will take the time to listen to you.
Accessing this service
Referrals
Our nurse may receive client referrals from internal MDC partners and other sources external to the MDC.
People may also self-refer to the service.
Costs
Our service is fully funded by the Victorian Government, which means it is free to access.
You do not need a Medicare card to see our nurse. If there are costs to access other services we refer you to, our Community Health Nurse will discuss this with you first.
