“Smalltalk supports parents with building those quality interactions and relationships with their child,” she said.
“Life can get so busy, so the playgroups will be about enjoying time with your child, slowing down and learning how to involve them in daily activities.
“It will also be a safe space for people to share their parenting experiences and learn from one another.
“There is a lot of isolation for many families, and families may not know where to go or how to seek support. By creating a Smalltalk playgroup, families can come to a welcoming place that’s fun for their child, whilst being facilitated by someone who understands.”
Smalltalk will run at local schools and community settings, including the BCHS Kids Space, during school terms, in which time it will cover elements such as parental self-care and confidence, connection to community and local services.
BCHS is now seeking donations of quality toys and books for use at the playgroups and for families to enjoy in their homes.
Felicity said picture story books in good condition were especially needed, as well as toys such as blocks, doll houses and furniture, dolls’ clothes, cars, trucks, trains and animals.
In time Felicity hopes to create a library of pre-loved children’s books and toys for the families taking part in Smalltalk.
Donations of books and toys are welcome and can be dropped off at the Kangaroo Flat BCHS site at 19 Helm Street, Kangaroo Flat.
