The kitchen relies heavily on community partnerships, and BCHS is again seeking financial donors to ensure we can continue operating this vital service.
We are also calling for donations of non-perishable items for our community pantry, which will be available for people visiting Fork in the Road during soup kitchen hours.
Bendigo Community Health Services Chief Executive Officer, Gerard José, expects there will be significant demand for the service, this year.
“We know the cost of living is putting many people and families under significant financial pressure, and often that means making difficult decisions about where to spend their money each week,” he said.
“This is one way our community can work together to ensure people have access to nutritious food.”
Mr José says the soup kitchen also serves a greater purpose than providing food.
“The kitchen brings people together. At a time when we know many have experienced further isolation and loneliness as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the café style soup kitchen allows people to interact in person and remain connected,” he said.
“This is one of the greatest strengths of the program.”
Use of the Fork in the Road space is generously provided at no-cost by the Andrews Foundation.
